Insurgent Archives

Insurgent Archives brings together research, training activities, and public-facing initiatives devoted to the identification and interpretation of documents related to practices of resistance in colonial and postcolonial contexts. Wills, inventories, legal claims, diaries, popular songs, oral narratives, images, and ethnographic records are approached as archives of conflict, negotiation, and memory.

The initiative emerges from the perception that resistance rarely appears only in major events. It is also inscribed in legal formulas, inherited objects, documentary silences, religious practices, songs, displacements, refusals, and small gestures of autonomy. Coordinated by Alexandre Belmonte, with interinstitutional collaborations, the initiative combines social history, microhistory, global history, and documentary preservation, connecting Andean rebellions, Balkan insurgencies, colonial archives, and contemporary experiences of memory.
